GARDA SÍOCHÁNA (COMPENSATION) ACT 2022

This Revised Act is an administrative consolidation of the Garda Síochána (Compensation) Act 2022. It is prepared by the Law Reform Commission in accordance with its function under the Law Reform Commission Act 1975 (3/1975) to keep the law under review and to undertake revision and consolidation of statute law.
All Acts up to and including the Merchant Shipping (Investigation of Marine Accidents) Act 2025 (2/2025), enacted 14 April 2025, and all statutory instruments up to and including the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024 (Commencement) Order 2025 (S.I. No. 107 of 2025), made 2 April 2025, were considered in the preparation of this Revised Act.

An Act to establish a system to replace the system provided for under the Garda Síochána (Compensation) Acts 1941 to 2003 in order to provide for the granting out of public moneys of compensation for personal injuries (including injuries causing death) that were inflicted on a current or former member of the Garda Síochána as a result of a malicious incident; for that and related purposes to apply with modifications and to amend the Personal Injuries Assessment Board Act 2003, and to amend other enactments; to repeal the Garda Síochána (Compensation) Act 1941 and the Garda Síochána (Compensation) (Amendment) Act 1945; and to provide for related matters.
