Refugee Act 1996

Short title and commencement.

30.—(1) This Act may be cited as the Refugee Act, 1996.

(2) This Act shall come into operation on such day or days as, by

order or orders made by the Minister under this section, may be fixed therefor either generally or with reference to any particular purpose or provision and different days may be so fixed for different purposes and different provisions.

2. The 20th day of November 2000 is hereby fixed as the day on which the Refugee Act, 1996 (No. 17 of 1996), insofar as it is not in operation, shall come into operation.

2. The 4th day of October 2000 is hereby fixed as the day on which sections 14 and 15 of, and the Second Schedule to, the Refugee Act, 1996 (No. 17 of 1996), shall come into operation.

2. The 20th day of January 2000 is hereby fixed as the day on which section 6 and the First Schedule to the Refugee Act, 1996 (No. 17 of 1996), shall come into operation.

Power pursuant to section exercised (29.08.1997) by Refugee Act, 1996 (Sections 1, 2, 5, 22 and 25) (Commencement) Order 1997 (S.I. No. 359 of 1997).

2. The 29th day of August 1997 is hereby fixed as the day on which sections 1 , 2 , 5 , 22 and 25 of the Refugee Act 1996 (No. 17 of 1996), shall come into operation.

Power pursuant to section exercised (1.10.1996) by Refugee Act, 1996 (Section 24(1)) (Commencement) Order 1996 (S.I. No. 290 of 1996).

2. The 1st day of October, 1996, is hereby fixed as the day on which section 24 (1) of the Refugee Act, 1996 (No. 17 of 1996), shall come into operation for the purpose of regulation 14(2) of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Regulations, 1956 ( S.I. No. 216 of 1956 ), (inserted by the Irish Nationality and Citizenship (Fees) Regulations, 1996 ( S.I. No. 291 of 1996 )).
