Review of decision to refuse request for interpretation or translation
24. (1) Where a victim receives a notification under section 23(2)(b) from the Garda Síochána, the F23[Police Ombudsman] or the Director of Public Prosecutions, he or she may, within 7 days after the receipt of the notification, submit a request to the Garda Síochána, the F23[Police Ombudsman] or the Director of Public Prosecutions, as the case may be, for a review of the decision which is the subject of the notification.
(2) The period referred to in subsection (1) may be extended where the Garda Síochána, the F23[Police Ombudsman] or the Director of Public Prosecutions, as the case may be, is satisfied that circumstances exist that warrant the extension.
(3) A request for a review under this section shall be made in such form and shall contain such information as the Garda Síochána, the F23[Police Ombudsman] or the Director of Public Prosecutions, as the case may be, may specify.
(4) Where the Garda Síochána receives a request for a review referred to in subsection (1), it shall arrange for the review to be carried out by a member of the Garda Síochána who is independent of the decision which is the subject of the review.
(5) Where the F23[Police Ombudsman] receives a request for a review referred to in subsection (1), it shall arrange for the review to be carried out by an officer of the F23[Police Ombudsman] who is independent of the decision which is the subject of the review.
(6) Where the Director of Public Prosecutions receives a request for a review referred to in subsection (1), the Director of Public Prosecutions shall arrange for the review to be carried out.
(7) Where the Garda Síochána, the F23[Police Ombudsman] or the Director of Public Prosecutions, as the case may be, carries out a review under this section—
(a) a record of the outcome of the review shall be made, and
(b) the victim shall be notified in writing of the outcome of that review as soon as practicable.
(8) A notification referred to in subsection (7)(b) may be provided to the victim by electronic means.
