Issue of passenger steamer’s certificate.

274.—On the receipt of the declarations of survey, the Board of Trade shall, if satisfied that this Part of this Act has been complied with, issue in duplicate a passenger steamer’s certificate, that is to say, a certificate stating such compliance and stating, according to the declarations—

(a) the limits (if any) beyond which the steamer is not fit to ply; and

(b) the number of passengers which the steamer is fit to carry, distinguishing, if necessary, the number to be carried in each part of the steamer, and any conditions and variations to which the number is subject.

Modified survey of passenger steamers holding Convention certificates.

29.—(1) Where an accepted Safety Convention certificate is produced in respect of a Safety Convention passenger steamer not registered in the State—

(a) the steamer shall not be required to be surveyed under the Merchant Shipping Acts by a surveyor of ships except for the purpose of determining the number of passengers that she is fit to carry;

(b) on receipt of any declaration of survey for the purpose aforesaid, the Minister shall issue a certificate under section 274 of the Principal Act containing only a statement of the particulars set out in paragraph (b) of that section (which relates to the said number of passengers), and a certificate so issued shall have effect as a passenger steamer's certificate.

Passenger steamer certificate issued under section may be combined with other certificate as provided (18.04.1935) by Merchant Shipping (Forms of Safety Convention Certificates) Rules 1935 (S.I. No. 141 of 1935.

4. A Safety Certificate issued under the provisions of the Act and a Passenger Steamer's Certificate issued under Section 274 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894, to the same ship, may be combined in one document.
