HEALTH INSURANCE ACT 1994

This Revised Act is an administrative consolidation of the Health Insurance Act 1994. It is prepared by the Law Reform Commission in accordance with its function under the Law Reform Commission Act 1975 (3/1975) to keep the law under review and to undertake revision and consolidation of statute law.

All Acts up to and including the Health (Amendment) Act 2023 (7/2023), enacted 4 April 2023, and all statutory instruments up to and including the Social Welfare (Consolidated Claims, Payments and Control) (Amendment) (No. 5) (Income Disregard) Regulations 2023 (S.I. No. 162 of 2023), made 3 April 2023, were considered in the preparation of this Revised Act.

AN ACT TO REGULATE FURTHER, IN THE INTERESTS OF THE COMMON GOOD, THE PROVISION OF VOLUNTARY HEALTH INSURANCE SO AS TO PROVIDE, INTER ALIA, FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE HEALTH INSURANCE AUTHORITY, FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF SCHEMES FOR THE EQUALISATION OF RISKS BETWEEN HEALTH BENEFITS UNDERTAKINGS, FOR A MINIMUM RANGE OF COVER UNDER SUCH INSURANCE, FOR UNIFORMITY OF THE PREMIUMS CHARGED BY EACH PARTICULAR SUCH UNDERTAKING IN RESPECT OF SPECIFIED RANGES OF SUCH COVER AND FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A REGISTER OF SUCH UNDERTAKINGS AND TO PROVIDE FOR RELATED MATTERS.
