Amendment of section 24 of Petty Sessions (Ireland) Act 1851.

26.— Section 24 of the Petty Sessions (Ireland) Act 1851 is amended by the insertion of the following paragraph after paragraph 2:

“2A. (a) A recognisance to which paragraph 2 applies may be taken by—

(i) any judge of the District Court,

(ii) any District Court clerk,

(iii) a peace commissioner designated for that purpose by order of the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform,

(iv) the governor of a prison, or

(v) a prison officer designated for that purpose by the governor of a prison.

(b) in this paragraph ‘prison’ has the same meaning as it has in the Prisons Act 2007.”.
